Feline Friday: squinty Mao

After the whole UTI fiasco--two weeks of medication, being crated while her infection cleared up, multiple violating baths in the kitchen sink that left her smelling like baby powder and then being alienated to the bathroom while we were in New York for my brother's wake and funeral, Mao has taken to cowering from everyone. She spends most of her time under some piece of furniture or another until we force groom/bathe her.

The plan is house her on our roofed balcony once the weather warms enough and in this way, limit her food intake. Hopefully, she will loose the extra weight and be able to care for herself properly. All the cats love going on the balcony on nice days, especially Brody and Babette. I will leave the sliding doors open all day and they can freely come in and out--that is until the humidity comes and the central air must be on 24/7! Having been around countless outdoor cats, she should be just fine outside. I'd like to let her back in at night and put all the cat's food away. They are sure to protest for awhile with much nighttime mewing and clawing at our door. Yes, we've attempted it before but I can't see leaving her alone out there all day for months at end...seems needlessly cruel. :(

Here is Mao cowering under River's train table with various trains bits. The flash made her squint for both photos.
